Otaru is a port city sandwiched between ocean and mountains, where there is a great hiking course that offers a grand view of cobalt-blue water and red cliffs. The strange rock formations created by nature all have names such as “window rock, cat rock or immobile rock”, and all provide an impressive contrast to the blue sea in the background. In the distance you can see the Shakotan Peninsula and Hamamasu, and the occasional climber dangling on the steep cliffs. The walkway is maintained and does not require participants to wear any special kinds of shoes or gear. On the way there is a small shrine with a god statue inside, dainty flowers that bloom along the way making your hike so fun it will be over before you know it. On the way home we will stop by one of Otaru's famous temples.
